Myth 5: You should write as you speak
This advice is widely heard. True, many writers would benefit from making their writing more conversational, using more personal pronouns and active verbs. But this is not the same as writing as you speak. Most of us don’t speak in complete sentences – a transcript of our talk usually reads like gibberish on the page. Good, clear writing is much more than speech transcribed; it is speech organized, worked and refined.
